Partnerships for Tomorrow Program

With the assistance of Grant MacEwan Community College, the Institute of Voluntary Sector Management and Development, Ukraine, has revised, expanded and refined the curriculum for six specialized Non-Governmental Organization management courses, developed learning materials and trained teams to deliver the same courses. The funding of international travel for two Ukranian women who came to Canada for the purposes of this activity, was provided by the Partnerships for Tomorrow Program.

Funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and administered by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC), the Partnerships for Tomorrow Program (PTP), contributes to the enhancement of the democratic and economic reform process now underway in the countries of Central and Eastern European (CEE) region. The PTP’s flexible and effective small travel fund mechanism supports and strengthens new and pre-existing partnerships and linkages between Canadians and the people of Central and Eastern Europe. The travel funds support small projects to strengthen professional and institutional capacity in order to further the ongoing reform process in Central and Eastern Europe.

The PTP will cover the cost of international airfare of Canadian and CEE applicants. In a limited number of cases. larger funds will be considered to cover accommodation, per diems, communication costs, local transportation and the production of marketing materials.

In Memoriam

ACCC regrets the passing of our Zimbabwean colleague Mr. Wilbert Matienga at the age of 42. For the past ten years, Wilbert served as the Principal of Mupfure Self Help College in Chegutu, Zimbabwe. Mupfure College is the principal partner of Bow Valley College of Calgary, Alberta in the "Entrepreneurial Skills Promotion Project" under the Canadian College Partnership Program. Wilbert ensured that his College catered to the socially and academically disadvantaged, particularly ex-combatants and those students unable to travel to the post-secondary institutions. Through his tireless efforts, Mupfure College became a national showcase for the Education with Production approach to vocational training through which students learn about small business ownership by actually running small businesses on Mupfure campus. Wilbert will be especially missed by the international donor community active in Zimbabwe where his commitment, dedication and enthusiasm were well respected.
