TRANSITION
to the YEAR 2000
In
1999, the world invested large amounts of energy and money to ensure that the turn of the
century was memorable and the arrival of the new millennium was as smooth as possible. The
Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) made that historic transition by marking
the last year of the century with two unprecedented events.
The 1st World Congress of Colleges and Polytechnics, hosted and
organized by ACCC in Québec City, truly heralded a new era for our member colleges and
institutes. Supported by many of our partners - national, provincial and international -
the Association and its member institutions reached a high point in terms of visibility
and credibility that made many members proud not only of their institutions but also of
their national Association.
The second significant event was the reorganization of the ACCC
Secretariat. If this operation was successfully implemented without inconveniencing member
institutions, it due to the care and and unwavering cooperation of our staff. Our goal was
simple: to better respond to the needs of our members in an ever-changing technological,
social, economic and political milieu.
Bolstered by this renewed structure and vision, the Association will
build and strengthen its mandate as forum, advocate, partner and marketing representative
for Canada's colleges and institutes in the year ahead. We celebrated the arrival of the
new millennium, and working closely with our partners and members, we will embrace the
challenges and opportunities facing Canadian post-secondary education in the 21st century
with the same enthusiasm.
