Message from the Chair

The year 2000-2001 was a rich one for the Association in terms of governance renewal, increased membership, and college participation in ACCC activities.
The transition phase of the Association's governance came to a close when the Transition Advisory Committee, which succeeded the Canadian Program Advisory Committee and the International Program Advisory Committee, completed its mandate. Members of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee became more involved in the various dossiers of the Association. This generated additional work for Board members but provided them with a deeper knowledge of the issues faced by Canada's colleges and institutes as well as a greater appreciation of their own contribution.
2000-2001 was also a banner year in terms of increasing membership. With a record number of colleges and institutes now active members of the Association, we continue to collectively strengthen our national and international voice.
Finally, new opportunities for and modes of participation by college and institute personnel in the work of the Association have had a remarkable impact on the visibility and accessibility of ACCC within the college and institute community. The number of electronic affinity groups has multiplied, as has the number of participants in these groups. Events that physically bring together college and institute representatives are also increasing in number and scope, with the popularity of the symposia on applied research, rural and remote colleges and institutes, board chairs and vice-chairs and sector councils, necessitating that they be held annually.
Strong governance, heightened exposure, increased membership and dynamic activities are clear signs of the vitality of our Association as it enters its thirtieth year.
